01 27,2026

Historical Evolution: The Institute of Precision Measurement and Control Instruments evolved from the Precision Instrument Program of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), which was founded in 1952 with the assistance of Soviet experts. As one of the earliest precision instrument programs in China, it has cultivated a large number of core professionals for the countrys aerospace and national defense undertakings. The institute is affiliated to Instrumentation Science and Technologya national key discipline of HIT.

Faculty Team: The institute currently has 10 staff members, including 3 professors, 5 associate professors and 2 lecturers.

Research Directions: Precision measurement technology for aerospace vehicle final assembly; mass property measurement technology and instruments for aerospace vehicles; precision instruments and intelligent testing technology; sensors and signal processing; 3D visual measurement technology; multi-sensor environmental perception and autonomous navigation; embedded image acquisition and processing technology, etc.

General Introduction: Closely aligned with the cutting-edge needs of aerospace and national defense high-end technologies, the Institute of Precision Measurement and Control Instruments conducts scientific research and key engineering technology research, and has achieved a series of important scientific research outcomes. It has published more than 300 academic papers, including over 100 SCI-indexed papers and 200 EI-indexed papers, and obtained more than 60 authorized invention patents.

The institute has undertaken a large number of national key research projects, successfully completing over 100 programs including national science and technology plan special projects, National Natural Science Foundation projects, national defense technology foundation projects, key scientific and technological research projects of Heilongjiang Province, as well as the European Grid Infrastructure for e-Science (EGEE3) program under the European Union Framework Programme for Research and the Virtual Physiological Human (VPH) programa European excellent network project. It boasts strong technical capabilities and high visibility in the field of aerospace vehicle final assembly and testing, having developed more than 20 sets of final assembly precision measurement systems, including the final assembly measurement system for the Shenzhou series of spacecraft. The institute undertook the research and development of the High-precision Integrated Automatic Measurement System for Special-shaped Large-size Aerospace Vehicles, which is the first of its kind in China and has reached the international advanced level.

In the field of machine vision measurement theory and technology, the institute has completed several national major projects, such as the Image Acquisition and Processing Verification System for Optical Imaging Sensors of Lunar Orbital Rendezvous and Docking for the third phase of the Lunar Exploration Program, the On-orbit Motion Testing System for Space Manipulators for the National Space Station Project, the 1/6 Gravity Simulation3D Visual Pose Measurement and Tracking System for Lunar Rovers for the fourth phase of the Lunar Exploration Program, and the Mars rover egress test system for national major engineering projects. In 2020, the institute won the First-Class Award of Science and Technology Invention of China Machinery Industry.

The institute has a laboratory area of 800 square meters with well-equipped experimental conditions, housing more than 380 sets of experimental equipment and measuring instruments with a total value of 13 million yuan. The research team has a sound talent echelon and strong capabilities in scientific research organization and engineering application. Team members have professional backgrounds covering measurement and testing technology and instruments, precision instruments and machinery, optical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, control engineering, software engineering and other fields, boasting strong scientific research capabilities as well as profound theoretical foundations and rich practical experience.
