Sheng Tianchen, an Outstanding Volunteer of the National Western Program, Captain of the Yunnan Team of the 20th Graduate Teaching Assistance Group of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), Secretary of the Master's Party Branch of the Institute of Ultra-precision Optoelectronic Instrument Engineering, and a member of the Presidium of the Graduate Student Union of the School of Instrumentation Engineering. During his undergraduate studies, he obtained 6 national-level and more than 10 provincial-level awards in science and technology competitions... 1. Across Mountains and Seas, Imparting Knowledge and Educating People
As the Captain of the Yunnan Team of the 20th HIT Graduate Teaching Assistance Group, Sheng Tianchen and the other 14 teaching assistance team members found a huge gap between reality and imagination as soon as they arrived at the teaching assistance base in Ninglang, Yunnan. Problems such as language barriers and poor academic foundation of students came one after another. What to do? Sheng Tianchen and the team members communicated and discussed repeatedly, exploring new methods and models. They established an in-team lecture observation and assessment mechanism to identify problems together and make progress collectively. As we step into society for the first time, we need to complete the identity transformation from students to teachers, adapt to local life quickly, and solve independently the difficult problems we have never encountered in campus life. After quickly adapting to the local environment, Sheng Tianchen and his team continuously improved their teaching methods. During the one-year teaching assistance period, a total of 31 person-times in the team won the first place in similar classes in major exams. The school leaders and grade groups of the local school highly praised and affirmed the work enthusiasm and teaching achievements of the HIT Graduate Teaching Assistance Group in many performance analysis meetings. Sheng Tianchen and many teaching assistance team members were awarded the honorary title of Excellent Teacher, and local parents and teachers praised them as the lovely young people who teach well.
Do a little more, and a little more, in this one year. This is what he and every teaching assistance team member thought and did. The Soma Fragrance · Love Fills Liangshan Charity Student Assistance Project organized by them has raised more than 330,000 yuan of love student assistance funds by integrating love resources from the university and society, and distributed the funds to 335 outstanding and financially disadvantaged students in three senior high schools in Ninglang County, helping them reduce life pressure and study with more peace of mind. We are all a group of idealistic people, and it is my great honor to strive for this goal with my other 14 teammates. Sheng Tianchen and his team organized and participated in more than ten local volunteer service activities at the teaching assistance base, which were widely reported by local media. All team members were awarded the honorary title of Excellent Volunteer of Ninglang County, and Sheng Tianchen was named an Outstanding Volunteer in the assessment of the National College Student Western Program.
2. Multifaceted Life, Extensive Hobbies
On campus, Sheng Tianchen is also an all-round talent, with student work running through his daily life. He not only serves as the Secretary of the Master's Party Branch at the institute, but also is a member of the Presidium of the college's Graduate Student Union. Build a solid bridge and act as a good link, hoping to build a better learning and communication platform for the students of the college and serve them. In view of the characteristics of the Master's and PhD Party Branch such as the diversified distribution of party members and heavy research task load, his Party Branch carries out daily activities with academic exchange as the starting point and carrier, emphasizing the sense of mission and responsibility. It also invites senior PhD and master students to share experience in scientific research and employment, providing guidance on academic paths and career planning for party members of the branch.
Symphony as the thread and violin as the needle, weaving through Sheng Tianchen's entire college life. He joined the symphony orchestra as a freshman, and the first rehearsal left an unforgettable impression on him, who had never played in an orchestra before. As soon as Ode to the Red Flag starts, my heart is captured. Sheng Tianchen recalled his feeling of rehearsing in the symphony orchestra for the first time like this.
Twice a week of orchestra rehearsal is a regulator for his busy academic work, and also an aesthetic education class. We are not only the beneficiaries of campus aesthetic education at HIT, but also the disseminators of it. From freshman to junior year, Sheng Tianchen gradually grew from a newcomer to a backbone of the orchestra. As the Deputy Director of the University Art Troupe, mainly responsible for the work of the symphony orchestra, he organized and planned many concerts on and off campus such as the New Year Concert and the Graduation Concert, making his own contribution to the construction of campus culture and the infiltration of aesthetic education.
3. Forging Excellence in Instrumentation, Accumulating Strength to Become a Pillar
Sheng Tianchen first came into contact with scientific and technological innovation through the university's freshman annual project. In his freshman and sophomore years, in the process of repeated competition attempts, he encountered numerous setbacks, kept improving himself, suffered repeated frustrations, and summarized experience constantly. I am not a particularly smart person, but I am focused enough and resilient enough. Sheng Tianchen evaluated himself like this. In his junior year, Sheng Tianchen and his teammates participated in the 9th National College Student Optoelectronic Design Competition. Under the guidance of teachers, they completed a series of processes from project research and scheme feasibility analysis, to component procurement and physical production, then to experimental calibration, accurate measurement and work improvement. Compared with his first contact with scientific and technological innovation competitions two years ago, he was much more proficient in these processes.
From the university competition to the Northeast Regional Competition and then to the National Competition, their work was updated and iterated continuously to achieve more accurate and stable measurement results, breaking through all barriers all the way to the final. On the stage of the national final, they performed steadily and won the first place of the national first prize in the competition topic with the measurement result an order of magnitude higher than that of the second place. During his undergraduate studies, Sheng Tianchen won a total of 6 national-level awards and more than 10 provincial and municipal-level awards in science and technology competitions.
In his postgraduate stage, Sheng Tianchen joined the research team of the Institute of Ultra-precision Optoelectronic Instrument Engineering led by Academician Jiubin Tan, tackling the tough problem of the new generation of multi-dimensional stress field measurement with teachers. He is committed to solving the problem of accurate stress field monitoring of complex components on domestic large-scale equipment, contributing his own strength to ensuring the stable operation of China's large-scale key equipment.
