Established in 1952, the Precision Instrumentation Major is China's earliest specialized program in this field. With Soviet experts' assistance, it pioneered the nation's first graduate program, cultivating the first generation of academic and technical leaders in instrumentation science and technology. This program became Harbin Institute of Technology's first flagship discipline and was selected as a national first-class undergraduate program.
The major focuses on cutting-edge scientific exploration, high-precision engineering, advanced manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, biomedical engineering, and aerospace. Utilizing technologies like precision mechanical engineering, optical engineering, electronic technology, control systems, laser technology, ultrasound, modern optics, quantum technology, computer science, digitalization, networking, and intelligent systems, it develops innovative instruments with advanced principles while achieving digitalization, networking, and intelligent capabilities. As a multidisciplinary interdisciplinary field, the Precision Instrumentation Major continues to lead advancements in frontier science and high-precision industrial technologies. It will play an increasingly vital role in building China into a global leader in science, manufacturing, and quality.
