Institute of Ultra-Precision Optoelectronic Instrument Engineering

01 27,2026

Historical Evolution: Founded in 2002, the Institute of Ultra-Precision Optoelectronic Instrument Engineering evolved from the Precision Mechanical Instrument Program established in 1952the earliest program of its kind for precision instruments in China. As early as the 1950s, this program cultivated the first cohort of postgraduate students in this discipline nationwide. The institute is a specialized research entity dedicated to the study of ultra-precision measurement theories, ultra-precision opto-mechatronic instrument technologies, and large-scale ultra-precision equipment technologies. It is affiliated to the national key discipline of Optoelectronic Information Technology and Instrument Engineering, the first-class key discipline of Instrumentation Science and Technology, and the postdoctoral research station.

Innovative Research Team: Centered around Professor Jiubin Tan, a leading academic in the discipline, the institutes innovative research team consists of a dynamic group of middle-aged and young experts, a highly creative cohort of doctoral researchers, and a team of experienced engineering and technical personnel.

Research Directions: Aligning with the global development trends of optical and optoelectronic technologies, ultra-precision technologies, and instrument engineering research, and catering to major national strategic needs, the institute has three key research directions:

Ultra-precision opto-mechatronic technology and instrument engineering;

Integrated ultra-precision machining/measurement technology;

Ultra-precision laser measurement and instrument technology.

Representative Achievements: The institute conducts applied basic research, key technology breakthroughs, system integration, and engineering applications closely focusing on the aforementioned research directions. In recent years, it has completed over 20 large-scale research projects and developed more than 50 sets of large-scale ultra-precision instruments and special-purpose equipment across 5 series. It has won 1 National Technological Invention Award (First Class), 2 National Technological Invention Awards (Second Class), 1 National Science and Technology Progress Award (Third Class), and 4 ministerial-level Science and Technology Awards (First Class). The institute has filed more than 200 domestic and international invention patent applications, among which over 100 have been authorized. It has published more than 400 academic papers, with over 300 indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP.
