Historical Evolution: :Founded in 2022 and affiliated to the School of Instrumentation Science and Engineering, the Space Laser Information Transmission Laboratory evolved from the Young Scientists Studio initiated by Professor Siyuan Yu. It focuses on satellite-borne, airborne, shipborne and ground-based laser communication technologies, and has developed a series of industry-leading laser communication terminals.
Faculty Team: The team currently has 5 faculty members, including 2 professors and 3 associate professors. Among them, 1 member is supported by the National High-Level Talent Program, and another 1 by the National Young Talent Program.
Research Directions: Overall technology of space optical communication, beam acquisition, pointing, tracking and control technology, atmospheric transmission compensation technology for optical signals, etc.
Introduction to the Laboratory Director:Siyuan Yu is a Professor, Doctoral Supervisor and National High-Level Talent at the School of Instrumentation Science and Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). Engaged in satellite optical communication research, he has published more than 110 papers in domestic and international academic journals as well as at domestic and international conferences, authored 3 monographs on space optical communication, and obtained over 80 authorized invention patents. He has successively presided over a number of national and provincial-level projects, including the Major Research Plan of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the General Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has also participated in several major research projects related to optical communication, and won more than 10 national and provincial-level scientific and technological awards, including 1 National Technological Invention Award (First Class), 1 Provincial Technological Invention Award (Special Class), 1 Provincial and Ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress Award (First Class), and 1 Gold Award of the China Advanced Technology Transformation and Application Competition.
Professor Yu has been conducting research on satellite laser communication technology since 1996. After more than 20 years of continuous innovation and development, he has solved the world-class problem of rapid acquisition and stable tracking of satellite laser links, enabling China’s technology in this field to evolve from following and keeping pace to leading the world globally.
