Historical Evolution of the Advanced Photonics and Imaging Technology Laboratory

01 27,2026

Established in 2022, the Innovation Photonics and Imaging Center (IPIC) is affiliated with the School of Instrument Science and Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology. It specializes in live-cell super-resolution optical microscopy imaging technology and aims to develop high-end domestic microinstrument products. The research team has been dedicated to establishing a comprehensive framework for biological imaging technology centers and an integrated platform for high-end imaging equipment, providing core imaging tools for precision medicine. This initiative promotes the multimodal integration of life sciences and medicine, positioning cutting-edge technologies as the foundation for future healthcare.

Research Focus:

1) To enhance the spatial resolution of optical microscopes, we propose a mathematical approach to overcome the optical diffraction limit, thereby improving spatial resolution.

2) For high-throughput super-resolution imaging, we introduce a two-step deconvolution method based on autocorrelation, which utilizes pre-deconvolution to boost fluorescence fluctuation detection sensitivity by over two orders of magnitude.

3) To develop a refined reference-free local quality assessment for super-resolution images, we propose rolling Fourier loop correlation technology, enabling in-situ, reference-free quantitative evaluation of super-resolution reconstruction uncertainty at the super-resolution scale.
